A Biography of Karauli  Maharaja : Sir Bhom Pal Deo BahadurYadukul Chandra Bhal ———




Ancient History of Yadava Family of Karauli —-


 The Yadava (modern Jadon  ) Rajputs who are represented by the ruling familier of Karauli and Jaisalmer , claim descent from the Yadav King of prayag (Allahabad ) and Muttra (Mathura) of whose early history very little is known.

The name of Jadon is said to be derived from Yadu , the patronymie of the descendants of Buddha ,the progenitor of the Lunar race. 

On the death of Sri Krishna,  the tribe was dispersed .



Medieval Period History —-


According to the Karauli authorities Maharaja Bijai Pal of Bayana the founder of Karauli Yadava rajput family  came from Muttra in A.D. 905 and built a fort on the hill Mani near the town of Bayana in Bharatpur.He ruled the country for filty-one years, till it was conquered by the Maharamadans under Abu Bakar Shah.



Modern History —-


In 1779 the State was much harassed by the Maharattas, and Sabalgarh was lost.

In 1804, during the rule of Maharaja Har Bakhsh Pal, Karauli came into relations with the British Government and a treaty was concloded in 1817, which rid the country of the Mahrattas.

In 1832 Maharaja Narsingh Pal died without leaving an heir. Gorernment of India. however, decided that the State should be continued and Madan Pal, Rao of Haraoti, one of the leading nobles, was placed on the gadde in 1854.

During his rule the State rendered loyal assistance to the Government in the Meeting.For his services Madan Pal was inade a G.C.S.I , his salute was raised from 13 to 17 guns, a debt of Ra. 1,17,000 owed to Government was remitted . 


Ruler of Bhom Pal Deo Bahadur Karauli State ---


His Heghness the late Maharaja Bhanwar Pal having died on the 3rd August 1927.

Maharaja Bhom Pal ascended the Gaddi on the 21st August, 1927. He was born on the 18th June 1866 . His father was Thakur Sugan Pal of Pardampura ( younger brother of Arjunpal and uncle of Bhanwar Pal ),who was also the Rao of Hadoti then. Bhom Pal was eldest son of  Sugan Pal .

the king of Karauli in Vikram Samvat in 1985. This was an occasion of great celebration in the royal palace and songs like the following were sung.

Ajab Khushi Hai Har Ek Dil Ko Aaj Had Se Kamal Ghari Thi Shubh Huye Masand Shree Bhumipaal Yeh Raajgaddi Mubarak Ho, Ho Buland Iqbaal Kunwar Or Bhanwar Dono Khushi Rahe Har Haal

One of the notable highlights of his reign was that Urdu was replaced by Hindi as the State language.


Married and Family---


His Highness has heen married(1) to the daughter and (2) to the sister of the late Raja Bahadur. Bhagwan Singh, a leading noble of the State and (3) to the daughter of Thakur Chiman Singh, a Tonwar Rajput of Mundia in Alwar.His Highnes was created a K.C.S.I. on the 1st January 1935.

Maharaja Bhompal has one son Maharaj Kumar Ganesh Pal, who was born on the 3rd February 1906, Maharaj Kumar Shri Ganesh Pal, the only son of His

Highness, is the heir apparent. He was educated at the Mayo College aljmer, where he studied upto the Diploma Course of that institution. He has got two sons named (1) Bhanwar Brijendra Pal and (2) Bhanwar Surendra Pal.


Social Work of Maharaja Bhompal Pal---


The Maharaja also worked to improve the social standards of his people and eradication of social evils. On December 23, 1939 CE, he passed a social reform Act that became operational in the entire State on January 1,

1940 CE. There were 24 clauses in this Act, and it placed restrictions on child marriage, extravagant expenditures on weddings and bereavement ete. During his reign, several infrastructural projects were undertaken; Bhumendar Sagar Dam on the river in Gerai village, Neendar or Ganesh Sagar Dam on Bhadravati River, pavements on Karauli-Gangapur road (it was renamed as Man Singh Road, in honour of Bhaumpal's son-in-law), remaking of Mandrayal road, and construction of Gulab Bagh and Bhanwar Vilas Palace. He also raised a Gurjar-only platoon called Ganesh Guard Gurjars in honour of his son Ganeshpal.

During his last days, the Maharaja declared Ganeshpal as his heir and handed over many administrative powers to him. He passed away in Vikram Samvat 2004.


     LEADING PERSONAGES  --


(i) Members of the Ruling Family---


(1)Hadoti-


Maharaj Kumar Ganesh Pal Rao of Hadoti , is the heir-apparent. He was born on the 3rd February 1906. He has two wifes, the first is the daughter of Raja Hamir Singh of Khandela (Jaipur) and the second is the daugter of the Raja of Oel (District Kheri) and

sister of Raja Yuveraj Dutt Singhji of Oel and Kaimarah Raj (U.P.);

The Maharaj Kumar Ganesh Pal has two sons and one daughter ,Bhanwar Bijendra Pal and Bhanwar Surendra Pal .

The Rao of Hadoti is a leading

Sirdar in Karauli State.

On the failure of direct issue to the Ruler, the Rao of Hadoti is regarded as heir to the gadi.



(2) Amargarh--


Thakur Kulbhan Chad , was a Tazimi. Sardar and next in rank and dignity to the Rao of Hadoti. He was born on 20th August 1880.

The first Thakur of Amargarh was Amar Man, son of Raja Jagman, who succeeded to the Gadi of Karauli in Sambat 1662, corresponding to 1605 A.D. Amar Man is said to have gone to Delhi and to have obtained a command (Mansab ) of horse from the Emperor.Maharaja Jagoman bestowed Utgarh on his son Amar Man , who founded Amargarh ; but his descendants were rebelliouns.



(3) Ramnthara--


Thakur Bhuwendra Raj Pal, was a Tazimi Sirdar.He was  the son of Thakur Dhujraj Pal. Thakur Dhujraj Pal was adopted by late thakur Harnath Pal of Ramanthara , who died in 1894.Dhujraj Pal was the son of Gajaraj Pal of Baroda thikana  in Karauli , brother of Harnath Pal. Dhujraj Pal, the thakur of Ramthara  was  the third in rank among the Karauli State Sardars . The Thakur of Ramanthra claims equality with the Thakur of Amargarh in rank and dignity.


(4) Inaiti---


Thakur Brij Raj Pal  was the Tazimi sardar  of the State.He was descended from Rao Bhoop Pal , sixth son of Maharaja Chatraman who ascended  the Karauli Gaddi in Samvat 1688.


(5) Bhartoon---


Thakur Kalyan Singh of Bhartoon , was descended  from Madan Man ,fourth son of Maharaja Mukund ji who ascended the 

 Karauli Gadi in Samvat 1641 (A.D.1584) .He was one of the Tazimi Sardar of  State.


(6) Pardampura---


Thakur Moti Pal of Pardampura ,

a hindu  rajput, was born  on  the 5th March 1876. He is a Tazim Sardar and  was the younger brother of the present maharaja Bhom Pal  and uncle of Maharaj Kumar  Ganesh Pal ,the Rao  of Hadoti. He was edueated

At Mayo  College, Ajamer.

He was the Commander-in-Chief of the State Forced .


(7)- Raja Bahadur Lakhapat Singh--

He was a Tawar Rajput  , one of the priacipal Tazimi Sardars and holds the hereditary title of Raja from the Darbar. His father Bhagwan Singh,  died in July 1892 .Birakhbhan 

Singh , grand-father of Lakhpat Singh ,originally came froma Gwalier State.The Maharaja of Gawalior granted Pahargarh to him for his life . He was the superintendent of the Charity Departmet.


Chief Officials of the  State  —-


The State is administered by His Highness the maharaja ecor visitng full power, with the amalance of a Council cumposed of two Members vis. The Chief Member and the Home Member . The former post is heid by Pandit Shiva Kumar Chaturved.


The Home Member is Rai Sahib Munshi Jugal Kishor ,B.A. 


His Highness precides over lie full Council mectinge generally held asce a seck for disuing of maltere beyond the jurisdiction of the Council.


Rai Saheb Pandit Raghu Nath Prasad , was the Private Secretary of Maharaja Bhompal.


Raj Bhushan Pandit Shiv Kumar Chaturvedi, B. A., M.R. A.S., F. R. E. S., M. N. S., expired on 25th June, 1938, and Rai Bahadur Pandit Brij Chand Sharma, M. A. LL. B.,retired Collector and Magistrate, United

Provinces was appointed Dewan of the State in his place on the 1st of October, 1938. He worked as Dewan for the remaining period of the year under review.


(2)Diwan Mangi Lal , was Naib Dewan.
